Description:

The Silent Hill franchise has always managed to deliver the scares even through the flaws of the third and fourth installments of the series. Well, the franchise has been passed from its original developers to American developer Double Helix and they've managed to come out with another outstanding entry to the series. Titled Silent Hill: Homecoming, the game is a pretty good example of the survival horror genre. Yeah, it still has flaws, but considering that it's the initial outing for Double Helix, that can be excused. The game puts you in the role of Alex Shepherd and are literally dropped into the hospital from hell – the initial scenes feature doctors drilling into patients and throwing them down a pretty large hole. You're probably next since you're strapped down tight on your gurney but manage to get loose and so the game begins. After that opening, the weirdness – and the terror – just keeps on piling up. There are a few flaws though. The story is pretty much straightforward like a sledgehammer to the face – no mysterious, enigmatic Japanese sensibilities here. That means there are no lingering mysteries and everything is wrapped up tight in the end. Combat's iffy – you'll probably end up avoiding more enemies in this outing since you'll probably die from your limited choices in combat; this doesn't even mention the whacked out camera. Still, it's a pretty good game after all the flaws. A good buy for any Silent Hill fan.
